Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) today released a Booklet on Sri Lanka: “We Accuse War Crimes and Genocide – A Brief for an Independent International Investigation.” This release took place in Toronto, Canada to a packed audience and addressed by several dignitaries including, Member of the Canadian Parliament Rathika Sitsabaiesan and John Argue of Amnesty International, said a TGTE spokeswoman.
“Releasing this Booklet is one of our initiatives to reach out to the international community to highlight the mass killing of Tamils and the need for an international investigation. We need justice for our people. If Sri Lanka is allowed to walk free for these killings, then other governments will feel less restraint to kill civilians” said Prime Minister Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran. “Bringing Sri Lankan Government to face international justice is our top priority” he continued.
This booklet will also be released in Geneva (UN) on 27th, in India on 28th and in London on 29th. It will then be followed by releases in different Capitals around the world, said the TGTE spokeswoman. This booklet, written by academics from India and North America, is to be widely distributed around the world and at the current UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, she continued.
This Booklet highlights different reports that documented mass killing of Tamils, including the UN Panel report and US State Department report. It also includes several international actions that were taken for mass killings, starting from Nuremberg trials in 1945, said the spokeswoman. The facts in the Booklet are supplemented by charts that make it easy to compare important issues and past international actions, she continued.
TGTE has sent a delegation to the UN Human Rights Council to counter Sri Lankan delegation’s attempt to stop any action on Sri Lanka, said the spokeswoman. This Booklet will be used as one of the resources to counter Sri Lankan Government’s propaganda, she continued.
According to a UN Panel report over 40,000 civilians were killed in five months in 2009 and women were sexually assaulted. Sri Lankan Government restricted food and medicine to Tamils, resulting in several died of starvation and injured were bled to death.
